Thanks to our cosponsors: Yale Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS), Yale McDougal Graduate Student Life Center, Yale Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Yale Asian American Cultural Center (AACC) and collaborators: Sanctuary Kitchen, Havenly, Elena’s Light and IRIS - Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services.
We came together as a community to celebrate women’s strength and resilience as millions around the globe raise their voices to fight for their rights despite the obstacles and risks they face.
CRIW partnered with the Yale Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) for a special event commemorating International Women’s Day on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The evening featured a film screening and talk-back with Iranian-Canadian filmmaker Sepideh Yadegar. We began the evening with a screening of "One Must Wash Eyes", followed by a Q&A and conversation with Sepideh and guest moderators Eman Salih, PhD, Yale School of Public Health and Kimia Sinaeian, PhD Candidate, Yale Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering and Yale OISS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Fellow took place. The evening concluded with further conversation over a reception with delicious food prepared by local refugee and immigrant women chefs, provided by Sanctuary Kitchen and Havenly.

Public Art Exhibits:
“Afghan Women Explore Themes of Identity & Home” thru Photographs & “Story Cloths”
This unique exhibit showcases the artistic creations from two CRIW Expressive Arts Initiatives which allowed mostly preliterate women from rural Afghanistan who are often unheard due to barriers of language, gender, poverty, and education, to tell their own stories through their photographs and hand-sewn “story cloths”. This exhibit is made by possible through the generous support of the International Association of New Haven, Penny & Rod Cook and Hangama Amiri.
