CRIW is committed to collaborating with individuals and organizations to celebrate community, support existing programs and collectively envision and co-create new, meaningful initiatives to promote the psychosocial well-being of refugee and immigrant women.
Overview
Coalition of New Haven’s Refugee & Immigrant-Serving Organizations & Community
In February 2024, the first city-wide COALITION of refugee and immigrant-serving organizations in New Haven was formed. COALITION members include: Havenly, IRIS - Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services, Elena’s Light, JCARR- The Jewish Community Alliance for Refugee Resettlement, Junta for Progressive Action, CIRI - CT Institute for Refugees & Immigrants, Sanctuary Kitchen, the KIAN Foundation and members of the refugee and immigrant community. Co-created by CRIW and Havenly, the COALITION goals include community building, sharing resources, providing support, better understanding and problem-solving major challenges facing the community and organizations and collectively advocating for sustainable and meaningful change.
NEW ENGLAND ADA CENTER DISABILITY RESEARCH PROJECT
CRIW is collaborating with The New England ADA Center on a research project aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of individuals with disabilities and their knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). For this project, CRIW Team members Hossna Samadi and Sitara Ahmadi are working with the New England ADA Center, conducting surveys and interviews with Dari- and Pashto-speaking Afghans who are living with a disability.
PCORI Stakeholder Committee
CRIW is a participating member of the PCORI Stakeholder Committee - This two-year-long project led by Elena’s Light and Yale University School of Medicine aims to build capacity for patient-centered outcomes research and advance health equity in New Haven’s Afghan refugee community.
