International Women’s Day with Homeira Qaderi

March 8, 2024

CRIW was honored to partner with the Yale Office of International Students and Scholars and other cosponsors* for a special event on March 8, 2024, featuring Dr. Homeira Qaderi to commemorate International Women’s Day. Dr. Qaderi is a mother, an award-winning Afghan writer, a scholar of Persian literature and a courageous advocate for women’s rights and the empowerment of civil society. She is a visiting scholar at Yale University’s MacMillan Center.

The event featured a talk with Dr. Qaderi moderated by Tabitha Sookdeo of IRIS to discuss her exquisitely written memoir “Dancing the Mosque: An Afghan Mother’s Letter to her Son” and women’s rights in Afghanistan.

A reception prepared by refugee and immigrant women chefs from Sanctuary Kitchen and Havenly and a book sale/signing followed.
